Max

Near Bank, London, 11:18 AM

The wind lashed Max’s face as he, Grumble, and Lannan faced off against the three men and one woman who lingered to the left, slightly out of sight, as though waiting for the right moment to pounce on her prey. The main thug, the one who had spoken earlier with a cleaver in his hand, tensed his muscles harder, mouth almost salivating at the prospect of hurting them. Muscles turned to his two men, one with raven hair, the other with a glint in his grey eyes, and motioned for them to step forwards with their weapons. Raven and Glint did so, smiles demonic and sinful and wide, eyes glistening as though dripping with blood. Whilst the woman to the side, with red hair flaring like fire in the sun, slinked off to Max’s left.

Max had done some martial arts as a youngster, when his parents were trying to fling him into all sorts of clubs in order to find what stuck. He knew to be aware of his surroundings, aware of potential dangers, aware of points of attack and how to manage a fight.

And Red, who veered to his left even further, was the wildcard that he needed to keep tabs on. That they all needed to keep tabs on.

He also knew that avoiding a conflict was the best course of action. Not that Lannan, nor the wrench sitting cold in Max’s hands, gave him a choice about it anymore.

He steadied himself, wind hurtling around him as though a furious tornado of charged danger, and Raven was the first to make a move. Hopping forwards in the midst of a second, right to where Grumble stood, and swinging his blade with venom. Arcing down, metal flashing in a blink of an eye.

Grumble jumped back, and it seemed that action had opened the floodgates. Glint, to Max’s right, lunged at Lannan, whilst Muscles decided Max was the weakest link. Muscles flew at Max with speed that betrayed his size, Max’s breath catching in his throat, and it was only luck that Max was able to dodge out of the way and jump forwards.

He’d fallen to the ground, wrench skittering out of his grasp. He clutched it back, breath almost knocked out of him, and shot to his feet once more. Shook a little, shivers threatening to topple him again.

But he was up, and alive.

But now, he’d switched sides. Grumble and Lannan were still fighting on the other side, whilst Max was on his own, with an angry Muscles bearing down on him as though a wolf going in for the kill.

“Ya can just give me what ya have, and be on ya way,” Muscles said with a smirk—knowing that, in around three seconds flat, he could probably end Max’s life. When Max didn’t move, he stepped closer. “Trust me, I know your type. Bloody junkie in an office, with that prim suit yeah.”

Max held up the wrench in warning, though Muscles merely laughed. A demonic chuckle, brought up as though his throat was summoned from the caverns of hell.
